A harsh but loving father, Wink, swore that his beloved daughter, Hushpuppy, would be prepared for the day he was no longer able to look after her. Little did Wink realize that day would come sooner than anyone suspected, and when illness strikes him down nature runs amuck. As the soaring temperatures melt ice caps and the sea levels swell, a race of prehistoric beasts named the aurochs emerge to reclaim the planet. Meanwhile, as the apocalypse unfolds, determined Hushpuppy bravely sets out on a mission to reunite with the mother she’s never known. To paraphrase film critic Damon Wise of the GUARDIAN, this is not a pessimistic or downbeat film, but rather it is perhaps the first significant eco-threat movie to be seen through the eyes of the generation that has inherited global warming. Hushpuppy is a memorable grass-roots warrior in this regard. One of the best, most imaginative independent American films in recent memory. Film Admission Patrons, except LCCC students/faculty/staff with valid ID, must purchase an annual membership in the LCCC Film Society for $3.00/each, which is good for the entire season (September through the last film of the 2013 Winter/Spring Film Series).
