SDEV 101 - COLLEGE 101 1(1)
This course introduces strategies for creating success in college. Topics focus on personal responsibility, motivation, goal setting, learning styles, emotional intelligence, study skills, life-long learning, career and academic planning, and completion.
SDEV 102 - STRATEGIES FOR CREATING COLLEGE SUCCESS 3(3)
An introductory interactive course designed to introduce valuable resources and to teach strategies for creating success in college and in life and improving academic performance. Topics include personal responsibility; motivation, personal, academic and career; goal setting; learning styles; study skills; decision-making; problem solving; and priority management. This course may be used to fulfill the College 101 requirement.
SDEV 103 - CAREER EXPLORATION AND LIFE PLANNING 2(2)
An overview of technological, economic, sociological, cultural, and psychological trends that influence life planning, selection of college major, and career choice. Topics will include values clarification, goal setting, needs assessment, skill identification, and a synthesis of information to create a life/career plan.
SDEV 104 - JOB SEARCH STRATEGIES 1(1)
In this hands-on course students will learn all aspects of finding employment including networking, on-line job boards and other Internet applications, including social networking. During the course students will create a finished resume and cover letter and complete a sample employment application. Students will also learn how to interview successfully and will participate in a simulated job interview. They will prepare thank you correspondence and understand how to follow up after an interview. Students will also learn how to evaluate an employment offer and salary negotiations. The course will also cover strategies for staying employed and continued professional success.
SDEV 105 - STUDENT SUCCESS AND MAJOR EXPLORATION 2(2)
An introductory course designed for first-year students who want help in career exploration and choosing a major while completing the required student success course. This course enables students to explore careers and college majors as well as develop the necessary skills for success in college. Topics include self-discovery through values clarification, skill identification, interest and personality assessments; career and major research; strategies for success in college; and establishing a plan for educational goal achievement. This course may be used to fulfill the College 101 requirement.
SDEV 111 - SUCCESS COACHING AND MENTORING I 3(3)
The ability to coach and mentor are valued competencies in business, non-profit, academic, and athletic environments. This course is intended to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the concepts, principles, and practice of coaching and mentoring. Through theoretical and practical applications, students will develop the necessary knowledge and skills needed to foster or create and maintain effective coaching and mentoring relationships. Topics include Coaching vs. Mentoring, Creating the Coaching or Mentoring Relationship, Stages of Coaching and Mentoring.
SDEV 112 - SUCCESS COACHING AND MENTORING II 3(3)
A continuation of Success Coaching and Mentoring I. This course is intended to deepen understanding of the concepts, principles, and practice of coaching and mentoring. This course will include a service learning components. Topics include Ethics of Coaching and Mentoring; Coaching, Mentoring and Diversity; Assessment in Coaching and Mentoring Practice; Challenging Clients and Situations; Self-Management and Self-Care for the Coach and Mentor; Documentation/Case Management.
Prerequisite: Prerequisite: SDEV 111
SDEV 192 - LEADERSHIP THROUGH CIVIC ENGAGEMENT 1(1)
In this leadership development course students will be able to identify the characteristics of exceptional leaders, understand the fundamental principles of leadership development and practice specific leadership behaviors. Emphasis is placed on integrating leadership into civic engagement to support students and community. Students will develop a personal leadership action plan and participate in discussions to further develop leadership in themselves and support leadership in others. This course will include a service learning component.
SDEV 196 - PRIOR LEARNING PORTFOLIO 3(3)
This course serves as a preparation for developing a PLA portfolio. It is designed to provide assistance to students to identify areas of work and life learning that can be evaluated for college-level course credit. The course will also guide students through the preparation and compilation of all components required for the evaluation of a portfolio of prior learning.
Prerequisite: Prerequisite: Completion of DLTRA on-line training and demonstrated attainment of college placement in writing or concurrently enrolled in ENGL 061/161.
SDEV 197 - COLLEGE AND CAREER SUCCESSS STRATEGIES 2(2)
This course introduces strategies for creating success in college and career. Topics include personal responsibility, motivation, goal setting, study skills, interdependence and career and academic planning in college. These skills are further applied to creating success in the workplace. In addition, the course explores a broad range of job search techniques necessary for entering the job market. This course may be used to fulfill the College 101 requirement.
SDEV 198 - PRIOR LEARNING PORTFOLIO 1(1)
This course serves as a preparation for developing a prior learning assessment portfolio. It is designed to provide assistance to students to identify areas of work and life learning that can be evaluated for college-level course credit. The course will also guide students through the preparation and compilation of all components required for the evaluation of a portfolio of prior learning. Prerequisite: Demonstrated attainment of college placement in writing or concurrently enrolled in ENGL 061 or ENGL 161.

SDEV 299 - INDIVIDUALIZED STUDIES/COLLEGE 101 1(1)
An in-depth study of various areas of Student Development presented by discussion and/or individual research and reading. Topics will vary. Repeatable up to a total of four credit hours. Prerequisite: Second year standing and divisional approval.
